Wild Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is full of diversified fauna and flora. I got a chance to do a 'safari' to one of local national game parks - 'Minneriya' situated in north central region. Elephants are not a rare
s
cene there. My FinePix S1500 captured some of them.

DBA and SYSDBA - Tips to a newbie(3)

SYSDBA and DBA are often misunderstood. In short, SYSDBA is a system privilege whereas DBA is a role.
The DBA role does not include the SYSDBA or SYSOPER system privileges. SYSDBA and SYSOPER are special administrative privileges that allow an administrator to perform basic database administration tasks, such as creating the database, instance startup and shutdown, drop a database, open and mount a database, place database in archivelog mode or remove it from archivelog mode.
About SYSDBA system privilege

The SYSDBA and SYSOPER system privileges allow access to a database instance even when the database is not open. Control of these privileges is totally outside of the database itself. The SYSDBA and SYSOPER privileges can also be thought of as types of connections that enable you to perform certain database operations for which privileges cannot be granted in any other fashion. For example, if you have the SYSDBA privilege, you can connect to the database by specifying CONNECT AS SYSDBA

Troubleshooting Enteprise manager-Tips to a newbie(2)

Have you come across a situation where you try to connect to Enterprise manager using the URL but unable to connect, giving some weird error messages.

Like java.lang.Exception: Exception in sending Request :: null or agent not found or similar ??

This is probably due to a problem with dbconsole agent.

Most of the time this is caused by the incorrect time zone selected in emd.properties

emd.properties file is found in 'Oracle_home\sysman'

Try some of there steps to solve. Might be useful

start oracle service

set oracle_sid=orcl

check timezone in emd.properties

if no valid time, set the OS time zone and add a supported entry(agentTZRegion=Asia/Calcutta)

reset agent

emctl resetTZ agent

start console

emctl status dbconsole

set agent path

set oracle_home=D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1

start agent

emctl start agent

to check staus

emctl status dbcolsole

emctl status agent

to get time zone from config

emctl config getTZ
